Dual Talented Local Wins Award

Maree-Myhill-Photo-Exhibition

Local writer/photographer Maree myhill won first and third places in the 2024 Elyne Mitchell Photo Story Awards recently.

Maree Myhill, a member of Young’s Lambing Flat Writers Group and former long time member of the Young Camera Club, was awarded both First and Third places in the 2024 Elyne Mitchell Photo Story Awards as part of the annual The Man from Snowy River Bush Festival held in Corryong in Victoria recently.

Elyne Mitchell is the celebrated author of the children’s classic “Silver Brumby” series of novels and was a keen amateur photographer who used her photographs to illustrate as well as inspire her writing.

Entrants were required to provide a photo on the theme – “The Call of the High Country” along with an accompanying 200 word story. Both of Maree’s photos and stories, entitled Early Morning and Mountain Beauty, captured the spirit as well as the rugged beauty of the High Country.

“After receiving second, third and highly commended awards in previous years of the Elyne Mitchell Photo Story Awards, I was delighted to win first and third prizes this year against some stiff competition,” Maree told me.

Maree often exhibits her photography at the Burrangong Gallery at the Visitors Centre in Young and she is currently creating a new series of photos for an exhibition at the Murringo Barracks Art Gallery in September this year where she has been invited to be the Guest Photographer.
