Harden Library will host National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) next Wednesday, May 25 at 11am, but people are asked to arrive by 10:45am.

National Simultaneous Storytime has been running for over 20 years and is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA).

Every year an Australian picture book is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, homes and children’s facilities all over Australia and the world.

This year’s book, Family Tree, written by Josh Pyke and illustrated by Ronojay Ghosh, will be enjoyed in Harden Library.

This book celebrates the important themes of family, community and seasons of life; encouraging shared experiences and cherished memories. Harden Library has a fabulous Library Family Tree display where patrons and visitors can add a special leaf about why their family or library is so special.

An exciting craft session will take place in the library following the reading of Family Tree on May 25.

Harden Library looks forward to participating in this extremely important event which promotes a lifelong love of reading and literature.

NSS is a fun, vibrant event:

  • Promoting the value of reading and literacy;
  • Promoting the value and fun of books;
  • Promoting an Australian writer and publisher;
  • Promoting storytime activities in libraries and communities around the country; and
  • Providing opportunities to involve parents, grandparents, the media and others to participate in and enjoy the occasion.

When choosing a book for NSS, they look for positive storylines that appeal to a modern and diverse audience and are suitable in language and length to be read aloud.

They also look at how well the book lends itself to craft and other activities.

Young Library will also host National Simultaneous Storytime, with Mayor Margaret Roles as a special guest reader.
