Active Farmers Charity Cherry Ride Draws Closer

After the cyclists complete their fundraising Cherry Ride on Saturday, April 22, they can relax before heading out to the Young Services Club for a Cherry Ride Dinner at 6:30 pm.
Australia’s most celebrated winter Olympian, Jacqui Cooper and NRL legend, Wayne Pearce will both speak at the dinner.
The whole weekend from start to finish will focus on resilience.
Cooper has represented Australia in the sport of aerial skiing for more than 20 years.
She competed in 139 World Cup events and nine World Championships, has been selected for five Winter Olympic teams, and was the first Australian woman in history (summer or winter) to have enjoyed the honour.
Cooper has won a record five world titles, 39 World Cup medals, 25 World Cup wins and three major World Championship medals. After retiring, she wrote books on her IVF experiences. In 2015, the sportswoman’s daughter was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease.
CEO of Active Farmers, Justin Sampson said that inspired by that diagnosis, Cooper created a range of gluten-free food that she could trust, which was easy to make and tasted good.
“Jacqui is inspirational, to be a top competitor for so long, to talk openly about her IVF experience, her daughter’s nutrition and overcoming adversity, I couldn’t think of a better fit to talk about building resilience in rural Australia,” Mr Sampson said.
Wayne Pearce, OAM, is currently an NRL Commissioner and one of the greats of the rugby league modern era.
He was one of the first players who really went the extra mile in fitness preparation and health.
Mr Sampson said his dedication really changed the way athletes prepared for the game.
“He’s played for the Kangaroos, State of Origin NSW, Balmain Tigers - he’s perfectly qualified to talk about how to look after yourself, keep chipping away, as well as what he learned over the years about building teams and leadership,” Mr Sampson said.
“It’s so important that you move and do some type of physical activity, which has a direct correlation to our well-being, even if it’s a 20-minute walk every day, you will feel better for it. Together with nutrition and sleep, you can’t go wrong.”
The ride is $350 per person and includes Friday evening at Grove Estate Winery, Young with special guest, Eddie Jones.
The group is raising additional funds via GoFundraise to go back into supporting new and existing Active Farmers communities that cost an average of $7000 per year in personal trainer wages, equipment, venue hire and health-related workshops.
