Mental health is one topic that just never seems to be off the agenda at the moment, but one group is doing everything it can to contribute to the resilience of smaller farming communities by helping to improve the social fabric and connectedness that once held them together.

Independent research conducted by the Regional Australia Institute found that:

  • 98.1 per cent of respondents scored their mood four out of five after attending an Active Farmers event with physical activity, social connection and taking time out being the most common factors;
  • 91.1 per cent of respondents socialised with people they would not ordinarily be able to; and
  • 91.8 per cent felt they had a great sense of belonging through Active Farmers.

Active Farmers’ Ali Lane said the stats were very important.

“They prove what we’re doing is working,” Ms Lane said.

“Community groups are getting smaller and smaller. We’re building that social fabric.”

That is why Active Farmers will hold a Cherry Ride for Resilience encompassing Young, Harden and Boorowa on Saturday, April 22.

The weekend’s events will kick off with drinks and canapes with newly appointed Wallabies Coach, Eddie Jones at Grove Estate on Friday, April 21 from 6 pm.

So, if you love all things rugby, or you just want to do your part to support Active Farmers, get along and have a great time.

On Saturday morning, riders will gather at Young Caravan Park and ride to Boorowa for morning tea followed by a pedal to Harden for lunch before heading back to Young.

It is a 137 km round trip.

There will be a dinner at Young Services Club complete with a guest speaker on Saturday night.

The ride costs $350 per person and includes Friday evening at Grove Estate Winery, Young with special guest Eddie Jones, meals, a riding kit and a support car and maintenance specialist.

Riders are encouraged to raise additional funds via GoFundraise, to go back into supporting new and existing Active Farmers communities.

It costs $7,000 to hold each class, so they really need your help to raise dollars.
