ANZAC Day In Boorowa

ANZAC-DAY

A large crowd congregated outside Boorowa Memorial bright and early on Tuesday the 25th of April to commemorate the ANZACS and everything they did for our country.

At 10:30am the ANZAC Day March began down Marsden Street, one of the biggest parades Boorowa has seen. People involved in the March included a Spitfire aircraft that flew over Boorowa before the march, veterans and families, Boorowa cadets, Boorowa schools, the Bee centre, Boorowa RSL Sub Branch, the fantastic drummers and many more.

For the late risers, another memorial service started at 11:30 am following the March. Other than being the 108th anniversary of the landing in Gallipoli, it is the 90th anniversary of the honor roll with the memorial being opened in 1933.

While wreaths were being laid by service persons, war widows, school captains, descendants and the general Boorowa community, the song ‘Lest We Forget’ was being sung by our choir.

Two amazing young women from Boorowa Central School, Stephanie Piper and Imogen Pye, spoke at the service on what ANZAC Day meant to them. Both girls spoke wonderfully and made their community very proud.

“I mourn those who gave their lives fighting for a country they loved, some having no idea what they were getting into. Some of them were even younger than me. I think about how I wouldn’t be able to live on my own, yet there were men and women sacrificing their lives for this great country I call home. They fought so we could enjoy our lives here, being free and able to be who we want to be.” - Stephanie Piper

“For as long as I can remember, I wake up early every ANZAC Day to go to the dawn service to pay my respects to those who fought in the war. This ritual has been a part of my life for all 18 years of my life. I remember getting out of bed thinking about how important it is that we remember those that fought for us. I think about how early they would have risen, how the annoying tones of my alarm are nothing compared to boys my age waking up to the sound of Reveille and mortars.” - Imogen Pye
