After hosting a successful fundraising high tea, the Young Hospital Auxiliary has donated some new equipment to the hospital’s maternity ward.

The equipment includes a rooming-in crib, peanut pillow and floor birthing mat.

President Janice Ward said the Auxiliary was delighted to buy items that add to the comfort and safety of newborns and mothers.

The Auxiliary continues to provide extra comforting equipment such as the newly donated peanut pillow, which offers excellent stability and support for birthing women, and the floor-birthing mat, which supports active birth positions at the floor level.

Nursing Unit Manager, Katrina Green said the rooming-in crib provides transparency for parents to see their newborn and ease of access to provide care.

“For the mother, being close to their newborn is important to offer them reassurance, protection and love,” Ms Green said.

So far this financial year, Young Maternity Unit has assisted with delivering more than 130 babies.
