Avian Foster And Rescue Finds Home In Harden
South West Vian Foster and Rescue has found a home in Harden and they could use your help.
South West Avian Foster and Rescue’s Harden headquarters is seeking suitable volunteers to help with the day-to-day chores associated with caring for the birds and keep them socialised in preparation for adoption.
The self-funded, not-for-profit charity has been in operation for the past 14 years, operating in Southwest Syndey until organiser Lyn and her partner purchased their property in Harden in December last year.
“We are a rescue and foster service for found tame pet birds - both native and non-native,” Lyn said.
“During COVID, we were inundated with found birds who remained unclaimed making it necessary to find a more suitable premise.”
“Unfortunately, the Sydney prices priced us out of the market resulting in us having to move further afield. Basically, the service assists owners who are no longer able to care for their birds,” Lyn said.
“We also rescue neglected and unwanted birds for rehoming, and we try to reunite lost birds with their owners. We make every effort to reunite birds and their owners, often holding onto birds for a year on average before we begin the adoption process.”
“Some birds remain in permanent care with us for various reasons. Our foster carers are wonderful people who help us care for the birds and assist us in re-homing.”
The adoption process is quite stringent because they want to see birds go to a home where they can live out the rest of their lives in happiness.
When you adopt a bird from South West Avian Foster & Rescue, an adoption fee is charged which goes directly towards caring for the remaining birds in care.
“Our dream is to get a sanctuary where unwanted birds can live out their days in a safe, loving environment and have it open to the public to visit,” Lyn said.
“Hopefully, we can meet the right people who can get behind the idea and help bring it to fruition. At the Harden headquarters, we have in excess of 90 birds in care plus foster carers in Sydney are also overflowing with birds.”
