Boorowa CWA’s cookbook - A Taste of Heaven…. will be on sale at the Family Fun Day in the Park on November 25.

You can be forgiven if when you hear someone say the CWA an image of a plump, perfectly formed spongey lamington or a deliciously fluffy scone topped with homemade jam and cream pop into your mind’s eye.

After all, the ladies at the CWA have been cooking up a storm for a century and they may just have discovered that it isn’t only a man’s heart that is led by his stomach, perhaps, just perhaps, his head is, too.

While women walk the hallowed halls of politics side by side with men today, that was not always the case.

So just how did the women of this fine nation manage to have such a significant impact on such important matters as prenatal and natal health care, women’s health, bush nurses, education, and domestic and family violence issues?

They baked their way to the bellies that could make the change that was necessary and then lobbied them for their support on the issues that mattered.

The Boorowa CWA Branch has produced a cookbook - A Taste of Heaven: Boorowa CWA Centenary Cookbook 1923-2023 to mark 100 years of contribution to the local community.

Categorised into decades, the book tells the story of the women who were in the leadership at the time, as well as recording achievements of each decade and the challenges faced.

It costs $18 and is available for purchase at Boorowa Arts & Crafts Tea Rooms Visitor Information Centre in the Old Boorowa Courthouse.

You can also pick up a copy at the Fun in the Park event on November 25 from 10 am to 2 pm to celebrate the Boorowa CWA Centenary and gather with friends and neighbours.

Council’s Hilltops Youth Action Group will contribute a jumping castle for younger children, bungee runs for older children as well as popcorn, fairy floss and snow cone machines on the day.

Deputy Group Captain for the local RFS, Joseph Banks generously volunteered to take the fire engine along for children to explore at the event.

There will be plenty of games, rides, Christmas gifts and treats, live music and a sausage sizzle, all that’s left is to be kind to each other and join in the celebration.
