Sorubi-and-Eliezer

Sorubi Thavatnam and her beautiful therapy dog Eliezer say goodbye and thank you to Boorowa.

From the moment she moved to Boorowa, Sorubi Thavatnam was warmed by the community’s welcome.

She moved into an empty house and started buying a fridge and washing machine before someone advised her not to buy anything, telling her that the furniture would come to her.

And, to her surprise, it did.

“As soon as people knew that I was new to town, people just came and gave me what I needed.

“It was a real expression of the kind of town that Boorowa is.

“Sadly it is time for Eliezer (my therapy dog) and I to leave beautiful Boorowa and make our journey back to Sydney to be closer to my family,” Ms Thavatnam said.

“We will be in town until the end of June.

“If you or your children would like to say goodbye to Eliezer, he will be at the Kindness Garden for about three more Wednesdays.

“Eliezer would like to tell all the children and young people who trusted him with their stories and their secrets that he will never forget their love and kindness.

“He will always keep your secrets safe. ”

Ms Thavatnam understands that Eliezer’s departure in particular may be difficult for some of the younger members of the town, so he will be at The Kindness Garden for the next few weeks if anyone would like to come and say goodbye and share a few final chats.

“Eliezer and I will come back and visit whenever we can,” she said.

“I have experienced so much kindness from the awesome people of Boorowa.

“It has been an absolute privilege and an honour to hear your stories and share your lives.”

Ms Thavatnam said that she started the Kindness Garden as a place where the community could be kind, do kind and grow kind, a place where she could make a contribution to the town while she was here.

“The truth is, I have received so much more in kindness from Boorowa than I could ever give,” Ms Thavatnam said.

“I don’t know how to thank you, Boorowa, but Eliezer and I, and all my animal family will never forget the incredible, generous love and kindness we experienced here.

“Boorowa will always be a place I remember as somewhere that feels like home.

“I am sure we will be back whenever we can to visit.

“In the meantime, if you and your family would like to follow along and see where our journey takes us, I keep a YouTube Channel for friends and family called Soul Food and PhTea.

“I share short videos about daily life with my fluffy family.

“Please feel free to like, subscribe and comment to stay in touch.”

The Kindness Garden will continue under the leadership of Lay Minister, Roland Walsh with the support of the many regular volunteers.

Opening hours have now changed for winter, with the Garden open between 4 pm and 5 pm on Wednesdays so everyone can get home before dark and the chill fills the air.

Parents are asked to accompany their children or arrange transport for them to ensure they arrive at both ends safely.

Visitors to the garden can plant, weed and tidy the garden or chat inside the warmth of the heated Kindness Kitchen.

Town prayer is on Saturday, June 1 from 9 am to 10 am at the Kindness Garden.

The Anglican, Catholic and Uniting churches of Boorowa join regularly to pray for Boorowa and its residents.

Boorowa residents, whether church-goers or not, are invited to attend to receive prayer or pray for others.
