Across the region everyone experienced violent storms on the night of Monday the 31st of October.

However, when Boorowa residents woke up on Tuesday the 1st of November, the first thing they noticed was a power outage.

Those with generators were the lucky ones, but most residents faced a morning without showers or coffee. Shops and businesses were shut until the power resumed at around 9am.

The Boorowa River was again flooded, the third time in almost as many months, only this time the flood caused massive destruction.

The Jubilee Bridge was closed, as the flood had washed away a significant stretch of road between Kenyu Road and the start of the Lachlan Valley Way.

A number of caravans were caught out at the Boorowa Caravan Park. Two homes close to Ryan’s Creek were awash and another home near Acraman’s Bridge on the east of town was totally engulfed.

One of the home owners has since been informed that his house is now permanently uninhabitable.

He is now renting a room in a friend’s house.

Across the district, people with jobs in Boorowa found that rivers and creeks were impassable so had to forego work and wait it out at home.

This meant that when businesses and schools opened, they were short-staffed, and contingency plans were made.

On social media, residents expressed their heartfelt thanks to Essential Energy, Hilltops Council and emergency services personnel for working tirelessly throughout the night and in the morning to ensure power was restored and people kept as safe as possible.
