Boorowa Gun Club’s most recent monthly shoot was held on Saturday 22 June. 38 keen eyed shooters turned up for an interesting competition, held in somewhat challenging conditions.
The first event, the 25 target handicap event, was won by Therese Nealon who skinned the event with the only 24/25. Therese earned herself a metre for her efforts with Bill Baratto taking second place with a 23/25. No less than seven competitors had to shoot off for third place honours with Steve Caltabiano outlasting the rest.
The second event of the day was the 50 target point score, sponsored by J & A Geotech Testing. Both Vince Gatt and Justin Smith shot a near perfect 148/150 points to go into a shoot off for the overall win. Vince came out on top in the shoot off with Justin winning 1st in AA grade. Bill Baratto and Kim Nealon both shot a 147/150 so had to shoot off for second place in AA with Kim edging out Bill. The best on the day in A grade was Troy Cooke from Goulburn with local Rex Murphy taking second place honors. B grade was won by Laurie Arnold with Bob Churchill from Yass coming second. C grade was won by Ian Crisp with Dianne Deland in second place.
The third event of the day was the Ian Crisp Trophy Deauville Doubles Championship. This event is always a favourite with visiting and local shooters alike and this year was no different. Aaron Jones and Kim Nealon came away with the win with the only “possible” 30/30. Grady Evans and Blake Gruber coming second with a very respectable 29/30.
The Overall High Gun for the day was won by Bill Baratto. The Ladies High Gun was won by Wendy Barton. The Veterans High Gun was won by Laurie Arnold and the Junior High Gun was won by Blake Gruber.
The Club’s next competition shoot will be held on Saturday 27 July and celebrates the lives of two past members. The July competition is always a special day to remember old friends who were very involved with the Club and the local community. The first event is the Barry Cooper Memorial which is a 25 target handicap event. The second event is the Dennis Smith Memorial, which this year will have a slight change of format. The Dennis Smith Memorial event will be incorporated with the Central Zone Mixed Targets Championship consisting of 10 targets DB, 10 targets SB, 10 targets PS and 10 targets DR. The third event of the day will be a 30 target Single Barrel Championship. The first event begins at 11.00am and as usual light refreshments and lunch will be available.
If you are interested in having a try at clay target shooting, the Boorowa Gun Club is open for practice for members and for beginners every Tuesday evening from 5.00-7.30pm. All ages and abilities 12 years and up. Photo ID is required and minors require a legal guardian present.
