Together with Yass Rotarians, the Rotary Club of Boorowa is taking part in ShelterBox’s “OffTheGrid” challenge – a nationwide camp out on a mission to fund emergency shelter for people displaced following conflict and disaster.

Rotarians from Boorowa, Yass, and other Clubs, along with supporters, will be sleeping rough at the Boorowa Showgrounds on Saturday, 7th September in the challenge to raise funds for ShelterBox Australia.

ShelterBox Australia is a not-for-profit organisation that provides shelter, essential items and technical assistance to help some of the world’s most vulnerable people recover and rebuild their homes after disaster. The aid ShelterBox provides depends on the disaster and climate – a family size tent, essential tools to repair and rebuild homes, tarpaulins, solar lights, mattresses, thermal blankets, cooking utensils, water storage and purification equipment.

Founded in the year 2000, Shelter Box has provided disaster relief in over 100 different countries, supporting over 2 million people to get back on their feet after hurricanes, earthquakes, conflicts, droughts, cyclones and more.

From Cameroon to Syria, all the way to the Philippines and the Caribbean, ShelterBox has provided shelter to over 2.5 million people so far.

When disasters strike and power lines go down, families are left vulnerable, robbed of comfort, light and electricity.

Right now, over 100 million people around the world have been made homeless by natural disaster and conflict. ShelterBox Australia is working to change this.

ShelterBox exists to ensure no one is without shelter after disaster, often working in places that others don’t, making sure that families who need support are empowered to take the next step in resuming their livelihoods.

By providing emergency shelter and tools for families robbed of their homes by disaster, Rotary is helping to transform despair into hope.

Rotary is keen to see a world where no family is left without shelter.

Together with Yass Rotary and Yass Boy Scouts, at last year’s event, they raised over $9,000 for ShelterBox Australia.

Please sponsor them in 2024, and help raise money to support those with nothing after disasters. All donations over $2 are fully tax deductible. To sponsor the team, go to https://offthegrid.raiselysite.com/t/boorowarotary
