The Boorowa Rugby Club held their annual Ladies Day Fundraiser on June 24, with this year’s beneficiaries being The Nathan Stapleton Spinal Injury Fund and the Boorowa/Young CanAssist branch.
At the home game against West Wyalong last Saturday, Goldies Captain Keagan Size, Goldilocks Captain Harmony Hemming and President Jason Stuart gave volunteer Kaye Doemling from Boorowa CanAssist a cheque for $15,069.15.
“We are grateful for the community’s continuous support of the rugby club and for enabling us to provide these crucial monies for such deserving organisations,” Mr Stuart said.
The Goldilocks had a challenging day at work after facing the competition’s top squad.
The West Wyalong girls played in some extremely good phases because they were quick, strong, and skilled.
The Goldilocks didn’t stop playing hard throughout the entire day, and Bella received a well-deserved try on the final siren.
Eliza Taylor and Alexcen Berry’s injuries didn’t help, but the bench made up for it in a major manner.
In the upcoming years, Charlotte Penrose will undoubtedly rank among the top players in the competition because she continues to display incredible skills on the field.
All day, Madie and Anna remained strong, while Harmony continued to take the lead.
Jez and Greggars, the coaches, were extremely proud of the girls’ tenacity against what were undoubtedly the competition favourites.
Even with the girls efforts the score ended Goldilocks - 5/West Wyalong - 58.
In the meantime, the Goldies, despite having fewer players than usual, never let the enjoyable game get away from them.
The Goldies had the chance to experiment with several lineups, which gave the bench plenty of playing time in advance of the crucial game against Cootamundra the following weekend.
In free space, Josh Dean and Felix Crozier excelled, with help from Jamie Golden, Josh Carmody, and Bullfrog.
Even though the guys bombed a few tries, Mark Poplin’s precise instructions at 9 allowed them to put on a useful score by the time the game was over.
Jamie Golden won the Champagne Moment with a 50-metre solo attempt and a 50-metre ‘almost’ attempt.
Before the final home game of the year, there is still a lot of work to be done at training.
The incredible game finished as Goldies - 54 and West Wyalong - 14.
