Help restore Boorowa River Walk at the tree planting event on the Boorowa River on Saturday, September 21.

Rivers of Carbon, in partnership with the Boorowa Community Landcare Group and Hilltops Council has organised a community planting day on the Boorowa River on Saturday, September 21 from 10 am to 1 pm.

The aim of the planting day is to improve the amenity and aesthetics of the Boorowa River Walk, while providing an opportunity for residents and landholders to learn about revegetation projects that improve habitat connectivity and biodiversity.

The event will open with a tree-planting session before participants will get their hands dirty planting their own tree or shrub.

There will be short talks on Landcare, birds and biodiversity, with giveaways and information on native plants, waterbugs, the Southern Pygmy Perch and Superb Parrot.

You will meet the guest speakers:

  • Amber Kelly, Landcare Coordinator from the Boorowa Community Landcare Group;
  • Paul Russell, ACT-Yass Birds on Farms Project Officer at BirdLife Australia;
  • Alex James, Rivers of Carbon Boorowa Project Officer; and
  • Jed Pearson, Rivers of Carbon and Waterwatch ACT Project Officer.

After all that, there will be a sausage sizzle or light lunch for everyone to enjoy after a little hard labour.

Participants are urged to wear sturdy walking shoes and clothes suitable for planting and bring along wet weather gear, a pair of gloves and a water bottle.

This free event was made possible with funding from the NSW Government Environmental Trust and support from the Boorowa Community Landcare Group, Birdlife Australia and Hilltops Council.

Registrations are necessary for catering and to receive directions to the planting site, so visit https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/community-tree-plantingday-help-us-restore-boorowa-river-tickets-979053253637 to register.
