Burrowa House Celebrates Thirty Years
Residents of Burowa House get top-quality health care and appropriate activities.
Boorowa Hostel Incorporated celebrated turning 30 with an open day at the Burrowa House facility on Saturday, July 22 from 10 am to 2 pm.
The official opening of the new wing, which brings the number of beds to 20, took place as part of the celebration.
People had the opportunity to view the new rooms that the residents occupy as well as the communal activities area and the proposed area for a larger communal sunroom.
Burrowa House is a facility that the whole community can be immensely proud of, especially because much of the financing over the years has come directly from the local community.
It is currently at maximum occupancy capacity and has been since the new wing was opened.
There were plenty of activities for the kids and market stalls from which to bag a good bargain.
As part of the festivities, they held a fundraising drive to finance several projects, including the construction of an enclosed patio area and the refurbishment of carpets and blinds in the old wing.
A community bus for the hostel and village is also high on the wish list.
At 7 pm, they held a dinner auction to raise further funds and to end the celebrations with some live music and dancing.
The auction included a bit of everything from signed sporting memorabilia, farm items, a day at the Royal Canberra Golf Course, zoo passes and much more.
A monster raffle, with loads of items donated by local businesses and individuals, was also undertaken.
Burrowa House is not only a valuable community asset for its elderly residents, but it is also one of the larger employers in town, driving the local economy with well over 30 permanent and casual staff.
