There are a variety of herbs that grow well in Summer. In fact, some herbs thrive in the heat.

Herbs that you can grow in a Summer herb garden include:

  • Basil - the warmer months of Summer are the best growing months for basil. It can planted either in a pot or in the garden and prefers a spot with good sunlight. It also likes to be kept moist and regular harvesting can extend the life of the plant.

  • Thyme - grows best in the dry, warm conditions of summer. Doesn’t like to be overwatered and needs some space as it spreads quickly. Can be grown in either a garden bed or pot and prefers full sun.

  • Mint - is a perennial herb and is best grown in a pot so it doesn’t take over the garden. It prefers full sun or partial shade and moist, well drained soil.

  • Chives - can be planted in either a garden bed or a pot. Prefer a full sun position or a position with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day. Removing the flowers will extend the life of the plant.

  • Lemongrass - thrives in the warmth of Summer and prefers a full sun position while being kept moist. It is best grown in a pot.
