Christmas in July once again returns to Canowindra, with Montrose House hosting lavish Christmas dinner parties with a Yuletide feast throughout the month of July, The Old Vic Inn offering a beautiful 3 course meal and Gloria’s Country Kitchen encouraging everyone to wear their ugliest Christmas sweater for their dinner spread.

Tommy Jeffs has dived into the Christmas spirit embellishing Montrose House with Christmas decorations to embrace the mid year festivities.

“We love to do it properly here at Montrose House and the settings this year are bringing out the white and reds with gold trims for the Yuletide pizzazz,” Tommy says.

Montrose House is currently still taking bookings for the 13th and 20th July.

What a way to enjoy a beautiful hot roast meal in this winter weather.

The origins of Christmas in July date back to France in 1892, when an opera was performed where a group of children rehearsed a Christmas song in July.

In 1935, the National Recreation Association’s journal “Recreation” described what a Christmas in July was like at a girl’s camp in North Carolina. In 1942, the Calvary Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. celebrated Christmas in July with carols and the sermon “Christmas Presents in July”.

They repeated it in 1943, with a Christmas tree covered with donations. The pastor explained that the special service was patterned after a program was held when the congregation would present Christmas gifts early to give ample time for their distribution to missions worldwide. It became an annual event, and in 1945, the service began to be broadcast over local radio.

The entire sentiment of Christmas in July is surrounded by the fact that there is no need to wait for one specific day to celebrate love, friendship and peace.
