One steel fabrication and installation service in Young has grown and diversified to the point where it is opening opportunities for more locals to build good careers, particularly with their Training Opportunities Program.
Apollo Fabrication Group CEO Caleb Jackson said they were actively recruiting for a number of corporate services roles, draftspersons, project managers, and site supervisors as well as launching a new round of their apprenticeship program.
Mr Jackson said the company found itself in a very good space right now, with 20 years experience working in the high end construction industry in Sydney and Canberra.
They employ 65 to 70 people in Young at the moment.
“About three years ago, we identified serious gaps in the market for trained tradespeople.”
“We took people with no prior training or experience and started them out with the fundamentals.’ “They then transitioned to our training workshop, where they delved a little deeper into steel fabrication.”
Moving forward, Mr Jackson said that people could then progress to doing an apprenticeship which takes two to three years and then do a Cert 4 or diploma.
“We do that all in house at Apollo,” Mr Jackson said.
“We have 18 guys doing apprenticeships right now.”
“They range from mature age to first years and a bunch of guys doing Cert 4.”
“This is a perfect time for school leavers looking to enter a trade to consider a career in the dynamic steel industry,” Mr Jackson said.
“An apprenticeship with Apollo provides young people with career pathways in a range of sought-after trades.”
“It also strengthens the local economy by building skill sets and retaining those skills in our region.”
Apollo’s Training Opportunities Program equips school leavers and adults with no qualifications to complete Level 3 and 4 trade certifications through to diplomas, with the opportunity to go on to becoming a project manager or supervisor in the future.
These opportunities come at a time when the company is looking at expanding its steel fabrication business in Young and opening other offices in metropolitan locations across the Eastern Seaboard.
The proposed rezoning of the company’s land on Telegraph Road, and staged expansion of the Young facility, are currently on exhibition.
