Cars On The Green A Success
IMAGE: This year’s Cars on the Green event has grown bigger and bigger each year.
Cars on the Green returned to Boorowa Recreation Golf and Bowling Club again on October 13 and organiser Sharon Webster said it was a very successful event.
“It went really well, even though it clashed with Bathurst this year,” Ms Webster said.
“We had about 200 people there - not 200 cars; we had 51 cars. There was a bit of everything - vintage, classic…”The Club started the event six years ago as a fundraiser.
“We did it just to keep the club alive,” Ms Webster said.
“It has grown bigger and bigger each year.”
It took a bit of organising that first year, but Ms Webster has fine tuned the process over the years so that it is just a matter of ordering the trophy, contacting vendors and car enthusiasts and getting posters out.
Today, all funds raised on the day go straight back into the club and are used for the running of the club and for community sponsorships.
Boorowa Recreation Golf and Bowling Club is a not-for-profit co-op, so all profits go back into the community.
Next on the calendar for the Club is the Gungewalla Cup, first played in 1926.
This purely local event will take place on Sunday, November 10.
“This is the 98th annual Gungewalla Cup,” Ms Webster said.
“It’s 36 holes of golf. It is the event of the year according to the locals.”
“It’s more prestigious to win the Gungewalla Cup than to win the Club Cup.”
