Celebrate Landcare efforts
Members of the Boorowa Community Landcare Group.
As farmers and people of the land, Landcare Week until August 8 is time to mark the work of our Boorowa Community Landcare Group (BCLG).
BCLG Coordinator Linda Cavanagh has been promoting the symbiosis of agricultural productivity with thoughtful land management in South West NSW for 30 years.
Linda believes the Landcare community is relevant to primary producers now and into the future.
“Landcare is an important organisation which helps to build resilience and diversity to regenerate landscapes in the face of challenging environmental and economic conditions,” she said. BCLG has been active since 1989, as one of the first landcare groups formed in NSW.
The community-based group has a membership list of over 200, with an active membership base of about 50 families and businesses.
Mrs Cavanagh said BCLG works to be a source of information, education, interaction and inspiration to the Boorowa community. Also, towards the betterment of the environment and greater community.
Currently they are running a Regen Grazing group with regular on-farm meetings. A David Hardwick Soils Training workshop is coming up on September 29 and 30, and an out of area bus trip is scheduled for later this year.
BCLG is currently rolling out projects to Save our Superb Parrot, with on ground efforts to fence off remnant vegetation and old paddock trees. This project also has a community engagement element, with bird monitoring walks in Spring.
As part of the national Landcare celebration, there will be a virtual conference with the Landcare Awards led by ABC’s Gardening Australia host Costa Georgiadis on August 5 and 6.
New members are always welcome to join. Membership is for the calendar year. Please contact the coordinator at boorowacommunitylandcare@gmail.com.
