Who’s up for a pram walk followed by a refreshing morning tea to enjoy each other’s company, catch up and celebrate Young’s local midwife team for International Midwives Day?

If that’s you, then put your walking shoes on, gather up your bubs, kiddies, significant others, family and friends and head to the Young Hospital on Sunday, May 5 for a 10 am walk.

The walk will head out from the hospital and return to the hospital for a relaxed picnic morning tea - BYO picnic rug and something to share.

Local midwife of four years, Meg Austin said this would be the first of similar events held in Young in recent years, but the team wanted to celebrate the role of midwives with their consumers.

“Midwives are important because they promote and support pregnancy, birth and raising kids as the biological norm, psychological process that it is,” Ms Austin said.

“Midwives are highly skilled health practitioners who aim to care for all pregnant and childbearing people to promote health and wellness in pregnancy and beyond.”

“Promoting wellness in pregnancy is important because we know that a woman’s health in pregnancy ultimately impacts her emotional and physical health as her life continues, and happy, healthy childbearing women promote good public health in our communities and decrease the burden of disease.”

There are currently 13 midwives, one student midwife in training and two obstetricians supporting the maternity unit at Young.

Let’s help celebrate our team of midwives this International Midwives Day.
