Harden has taken the simple pleasure of flying a kite and created one of the country’s most spectacular festivals, drawing people not only from the four corners of the country but beckoning them to join the fun from across the globe.
Thousands of people came out to fly their own kites or watch those professional kite handlers wrangle their massive kites.
When people weren’t flying their kites, they had plenty to keep them amused and engaged.
There were retail vendors, food outlets, ice cream and coffee vans and a delicious barbecue ensuring everyone remained fed and hydrated.
People who rocked up without a kite were able to buy one or create one of their own to set in the sky.
Kids were able to enjoy carnival rides, local dance groups entertained the crowds, face painting, and excitement all around.
An event like the Harden Kite Festival doesn’t happen without a lot of behind-the-scenes hours of work, work that is done voluntarily. This year’s event included well over a hundred volunteers working to organise the event, physically setting the event up and ensuring that everything ran smoothly on the day.
