Due to the weather forecast men’s and women’s bowls games were played on Wednesday afternoon instead of Thursday.
As it turned out this was a good move as Wednesday was fine and sunny in contrast to the rain on Thursday. There were 18 men on the green with most games being evenly contested.
The vouchers for the afternoon went to Aldo Malvicino, Brian McNair and Cliff Traynor with a winning margin of 10 shots. Steve Walsh and Geoff Holt were not far behind with a 9 shot margin.
Chris Wright and Peter Watts won their game by 4 shots and the winners with the biggest smiles were Les Fanning and Bob Ruhl whose 6 shot margin gave them the $155 jackpot.
Early on Saturday it looked as though the conditions would be fine and sunny for bowls but by the time play started at 1 pm there was cloud cover and most players were wearing jackets.
With 18 players involved there were three games of pairs and one game of triples played. The highest winning margin for the day was 7 shots for Ged Hardman, Tom Preston and Jono Watson.
Other winning teams and their margins were Alan Gall and Ian Schofield (2 shots), Steve Walsh and Peter Watts (2 shots) and Stuart Freudenstein and Graeme Edgerton (1 shot).
Several players from the club played in the Mixed Fours tournament at Cowra on Saturday and Sunday. Each team of four players is involved in seven games overall – Mixed Pairs, Men’s Pairs, Women’s Pairs and Fours.
Sixteen teams competed with teams from Cowra, Grenfell, Young, Wyong, Canton Beach and Wallacia involved.
The team of Denis Rosen, Jill Rosen, Glen Benson and Margaret Gailey were the overall winners of the tournament. Congratulations on a good win.
