The Boorowa CWA Branch held a very successful 100-year centennial celebration at the park on Saturday, November 25.

Boorowa CWA Publicity Officer, Kirsty Miller said the event proceeded with few alterations and proved to be a resounding success, even with the slight variations in the weather on that day.

“We thank the Boorowa and surrounding communities who came along to join in the centenary celebrations and for showing their commitment and support to our branch and this momentous occasion,” Ms Miller said.

“Boorowa CWA President Belle Banks formally opened the celebrations and gave a warm welcome to our guests and community members.”

“We are very thankful to the Boorowa Councillors Jo MacKay and John and Sandy Piper for coming along to support the event.”

Councillor Jo MacKay delivered an excellent address and an intelligent overview of the Boorowa CWA Branch, its accomplishments during the previous century, and its most recent year of 2023.

The centenary cake was shared among the various guests, and Jo MacKay and Belle Banks had the privilege of cutting it.

True to CWA custom, the cake was so wonderful that not a crumb was left.
“Thank you to our Secretary Karen Smith for generously baking the centenary cake,” Ms Miller said.

“Guests and visitors enjoyed the sausage sizzle and cool drinks and we thank the wonderful men, Mick Gorham, Barry Coble and Alan Banks who generously donated their time to help Fiona Gorham, Christine Coble, Kerry Lindeman and Jayne Apps feed the many hungry guests.”

Following the official speeches and cake cutting, Anna Dreverman and her band provided guests with an incredible musical experience. Anna kindly offered her time, her musical abilities, and the assistance of her thriving Hilltops Youth Action Group (HYAG).

The CWA members Mary Corkhill, Nat Downey, and Amanda Ingall assisted the HYAG in providing a variety of family-friendly activities, with the snow cones and fairy floss being particularly popular.

The traditional egg toss proved to be a hit.

“We would like to thank the students of Boorowa Central and Hennessy Catholic College who volunteered their time and talents to help with the day’s events in a variety of ways,” Ms MIller said.

“Thank you to Josh Gorham, Cooper Downey, Jordan Grimson, Molly Daniels and Oliver Miller.”

A big thank you was given to Joseph Banks and the Boorowa RFS crew, as well as the Boorowa Car Club, for generously giving their time and support to the event. The youngest kids always have an appreciation for the RFS vehicles.

Families were shown around the truck and encouraged to contribute to the continued success of RFS volunteer work.

Red fire hats and complementary activity packs are always fun.

Wandering among the arts and craft tents, visitors and guests bought a variety of hand-sewn clothing and accessories, as well as home-prepared produce.

“Thank you to Karen Smith, Marilyn Miller, Kathy Mason and Jane Saillard who supported sales and in all other areas, and Susan Musgrove who delighted the younger generations with a multitude of lucky dip prizes,” Ms Miller said.

Mahalia Manion, one of the attendees , was so thrilled with her purchase that she decided to put her beautiful dress on right away.

With pride, Mahalia displayed her brand-new Boorowa CWA handmade original, created by Karen Smith.

CWA member Virginia Keighley has been working very hard to put together a wonderful Women’s Wellbeing and Pamper Package, which includes presents and certificates valued at more than $700.

All proceeds from the $5 per ticket sale will go towards ovarian cancer research and treatment.

Virginia sold more than $500 worth of tickets, and the organisation expressed gratitude to all of the buyers.

The CWA will provide additional ticketing options in the upcoming week.

An event like this requires a large team to pull off, thus the efforts of all the CWA volunteers and members are appreciated and acknowledged.

“We would also like to thank the Hilltops Council men and women who ensured the Boorowa Recreation Park was looking its utmost best for the centenary event,” Ms Miller said.

“On behalf of the Boorowa CWA Branch we would like to thank all our local families, guests and visitors who helped celebrate the centenary of CWA in Boorowa.”
