Monday, July 8 is going to be a very special day for Boorowa thanks to the Boorowa Hospital Auxiliary.
This hard-working group of volunteers has managed to get the Melbourne Cup to visit Burrowa House, the Multi Purpose Service nursing home and be at the Ex-Services Club for a light afternoon tea to raise funds for the hospital.
If there is any confusion out there - the actual gold cup presented to the Melbourne Cup winner on the second Tuesday in November will spend the day in Boorowa on Monday, July 8.
Member of the Boorowa Hospital Auxiliary Jenny Carter said that earlier in the year they had applied for the Cup to come and were fortunate enough to be included on the itinerary.
“Burrowa House and the nursing home we have included in the day the Cup is here as residents are unable to get to the afternoon tea,” Ms Carter said.
“We have raffles, horse racing events with sweeps attached which the Ex-Services Club is very kindly organising for us.”
“We have Greg Miles who has broadcast the Melbourne Cup for more than 20 years speaking at the afternoon tea and a video of previous Melbourne Cup races playing.”
“There are opportunities for photographs with the Cup and hopefully with Greg Miles.”
The Auxiliary has organised a full afternoon of food, fun, frivolity and photo opportunities with the Cup from 3 pm.
It costs $15 per head and is an opportunity not to be missed.
