February proved to be a very busy month for the Lions Club of Young, culminating in the monthly dinner meeting hosting two very important occasions.
Lions Club of Young’s publicity officer, Lyn Freudenstein said the group welcomed Young Public School student, Pippa Findlay, to their dinner meeting.
“Pippa delighted Lions Club members with her presentation on the subject ‘Local History’,” Mrs Freudenstein said.
“Pippa recently represented Riverina at State level.”
Miss Findlay was accompanied on the night by her Public Speaking and Debating Coordinator, Kerrie Coulter.
During the night, the Lions Club welcomed Greg Whiter as a new member of the Lions family.
On Sunday, February 26 Lions Club members travelled to Grenfell for the Zone 5 Youth of the Year judging.
“Young’s entrant, Elisabeth Hall was joined by Annie Armstrong from Grenfell, Poppy Star from Cowra and Chloe Amery from Forbes, who were interviewed during the morning,” Mrs Freudenstein said.
“After a delightful lunch, the girls gave their presentations, answering impromptu questions followed by their five-minute prepared speech.”
“After the judges deliberated, Poppy Starr was awarded the prize for Public Speaking.”
“Annie Armstrong was awarded Runner Up and Elisabeth Hall was awarded the winner for Zone 5.”
“Annie and Elisabeth will now go on to the District judging to be held at Gilgandra on March 11.”
