Hello Hilltops, To all our Australia Day award recipients across the Hilltops, congratulations and thank you for your outstanding contribution to our wonderful communities.

As part of the NSW Government’s ‘Streets as Shared Spaces’ grants program, Hilltops Council has secured funding and is activating Boorowa Street in Young by providing better public space to encourage more activity within the Young CBD.

The proposal will include activations in seven locations at the Boorowa Street crossings, and Lynch Street corner.

Activations will include a mixture of tables and chairs, benches and seats and the construction of decking which will accommodate more furniture in the spaces for the community.

This exciting improvement will create a vibrant and functional CBD, generating positive social, economic, cultural, and environmental outcomes. Great streets, avenues, lanes, and pavements are the passages and connectors of our towns. As public spaces, our streets provide places for walking, gathering, seeing and being seen and provide a sense of character in our neighbourhoods, and shape the way we go about our lives.

The timeline around this exciting NSW Government program has a start date of late January 2023 with activations starting late February 2023.

I look forward to sharing an exciting 2023 with our Hilltops residents & visitors.

Deputy Mayor
