Margaret Roles - Mayor

On the 10th of May 2024, Hilltops was gazetted as a regional council.

This latest categorisation recognises the population growth of our local government area (LGA). It also leads us on a forward path of recognition as a strong, growing and dynamic region.

This energy I witnessed last weekend as Boorowa Landcare and North Sydney Bushcare joined forces to plant 5,000 trees in the Boorowa and Rugby area.

For the past 25 years volunteers from North Sydney LGA and Boorowa Landcare have joined forces for a weekend to revegetate and revitalise areas that have been historically subject to excessive land clearing.

Initially a project to protect the endangered superb parrot, not only is the parrot off the critical list but salinity issues and shelter for stock is also being addressed.

Sometimes the sustainable management of our world seems to be an overwhelming crisis; but what we as landholders can do, is look after and nurture the land that we hold in our Hilltops collective care.

Walking the gullies and hills on the weekend, volunteers walked in the steps of First Nations people who well knew that survival depends on nurture and care of the land. This Reconciliation Week, it is fitting that we acknowledge the care of country by the original inhabitants of our Hilltops region.

Also during the week, along with three little angels, scooters and bikes in tow, I visited playgrounds and parks everywhere! It was a wonderful way to spend the days and I thank staff who work so tirelessly, within the constraints of a tight budget, to ensure that all can enjoy our beautiful Hilltops Region.
