Welcome to another year of living in our beautiful Hilltops.
Perhaps like me, you are looking forward to a settled time of consolidation and growth.
Work will be ongoing on both repair and improvement to our road network and the many grant-funded projects across our LGA still to be completed. Covid related issues and extreme weather events of 2022 have an ongoing impact which will continue into 2023.
Headspace is now established and operational with many young people already connecting to the service. Once again, I thank everyone who contributed – either by signing the petition or sending a letter of support – to the success of our campaign.
However, it is only for a six-month trial and in early February, I meet with the Hon Angus Taylor and the Assistant Minister for Mental Health, the Hon. Emma McBride, to continue to lobby for a permanent headspace hub in Hilltops. I also acknowledge the continued support given by the Hon. Michael McCormack to our cause.
Summer weather hit us this month and I remind everybody of the fire risk associated with hot, dry, windy weather.
Crews across Hilltops were busy last week dealing with outbreaks. The support of aircraft water tankers and Council graders meant that all fires were brought under control.
Our thanks as always to the volunteer RFS brigades and Council employees that give so willingly of their time and expertise.
A useful app for everyone to have is ‘Fires Near Me NSW’.
We welcomed over 20 new citizens to our country and our region this Australia Day.
Ours is a diverse but inclusive society and every new citizen adds to the richness, depth and strength of our community. This in turn helps us grow and prosper as we look forward with optimism to 2023.
