Last week I participated in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout, as a part of the Hilltops Council team.
The Vinnies CEO Sleepout generates funds to provide crisis accommodation, assistance in securing permanent housing, food, healthcare, and so much more for thousands of individuals nationwide.
Business and community leaders, supported by their teams rugged up with a piece of cardboard and spent the night under the awning of the Young Railway Station.
While this initiative isn’t intended to be a real experience of homelessness, it is a way of encouraging empathy and awareness whilst raising money for vital support services.
Alongside the General Manager and some wonderful staff, the Hilltops Council team collectively raised $9,802.
We were joined by representatives from Altius Group, Big W, Flemings Property Services, Hennessy Catholic College, Label A, Pointsbuild Pty Limited, St Anne’s Catholic College Temora, TAFE, Vinnies Western Region, Young High School and Young PCYC.
Along with these parties we jointly raised $72,000.
I am proud to say that this money will stay in our community and help those in need.
A special thank you to all those who donated to the cause. We have such a supportive community here in our beautiful Hilltops.
A special thanks must also go to Hennessy Catholic College who provided dinner, IGA Young for tea and coffee and the Rapid Relief team who cooked breakfast for pariticpants the following morning.
The Vinnies Western Region team who helped facilitate this event did a wonderful job, once more, I am continually impressed by the community’s kindness and generosity of spirit.
A reminder that Local Government Elections will be held on Saturday 14 September 2024.
I encourage passionate residents to consider becoming a candidate for our Hilltops region.
