From Hilltops Council – Mary Dodd

Reflection can be a powerful tool. Reflecting, as opposed to just remembering, allows us to consider every aspect of an experience – why something took place, what the impact was, and whether it should happen again.

After the busyness of the past few weeks, we are coming to a season of reflection as we approach the new year.

Reflecting on the comments from the various community meetings across Hilltops this year, one of the recurring issues was communication from Council to residents.

Staff are continuing to work on improving communication, but a key factor is for us residents to consciously look for information.

So, keep an eye out for signs and posters in shop windows and Council reports in the papers, read community-group emails, listen to local radio and follow Hilltops Council on social media.

As always, serving the community is at the heart of what Council does. It works to support groups to help provide those extra services and events such as the festivals across the region. Council provides support such as publicity, preparing grounds and traffic control.

However, a substantial part of these events are organised by dedicated volunteers and community groups.

The Cherry Festival held in Young was well attended this year and positive initial feedback has been received.

Look out for meetings next year and come along if you would like to be involved or have an opinion on ways to build on its success – to reflect and consider change.

I know many children are looking forward to spending time at the pool, park or library this summer.

I am thankful that Council provides these core services to help keep our community the liveable and enjoyable place it is.

Wishing you all a joyful and peaceful holiday season filled with warmth, gratitude, and the company of loved ones. May the new year be filled with hope and possibilities.
