This time of year is always very busy and 2019 is proving no different.

I recently attended the Best Practice in Regional Study Hubs Symposium at Lake Crackenback. Regional Study Hubs are a vital resource in supporting regional students–delivering access to campus-like facilities in regional and remote areas; educational support; technology; and most importantly, a network of fellow students. The new joint use library and community facility in Young will include a dedicated area for the Country Universities Centre. I believe this is a very positive win for the Hilltops community. Last Friday I joined the community in the Walk against Family and Domestic Violence and activities at Anderson Park. I then attended the Proud and Deadly Awards at Young Public School and was honoured to present the prestigious Deadly Awards. I then visited Wombat Public School with Selina Win Pe to meet the kids and present them with some goodies from her organisation Will of Courage. I really enjoyed spending time out and about with the community and commend the organisers of such positive community events.

I am very much looking forward to the 70th National Cherry Festival next weekend. There is a huge line up events and something for everyone to enjoy so I hope to see as many people there as possible to support the event and give boost to our local businesses.

I advise the community that following her notice of resignation last month, Dr Edwina Marks has decided to cease her employment as General Manager of Hilltops Council. This is effective today, 25 November 2019. Council thanks Dr Marks for her contribution in a complex role and wishes her all the best in her future endeavours. Recruitment for a new General Manager is underway with applications for the position closing Monday 9 December 2019. The first round of interviews will be held prior to Christmas with the recruitment to be finalised early in the new year. An Acting General Manager will be appointed by Council while the recruitment process continues.
