Funding Available For Eligible Landholders To Help Save Threatened Parrot
Eligible landholders can get funding to help save Boorowa’s threatened Superb Parrot.
Boorowa Community Landcare Group (BCLG) has partnered with the Saving Our Superb Parrot project funded by the NSW Government’s Saving Our Species (SoS) program.
Funds are available to eligible landholders to undertake actions to help save the threatened Superb Parrot.
Actions such as:
- Creating new corridors of native vegetation (shelterbelts or riparian plantings) across paddocks or farms;
- Fencing off paddock trees (living or dead) minimum area of 20 m x 20 m and planting of understory;
- Fending off existing box gum grassy woodland which allows strategic grazing management that improves overall habitat quality; and
- Establishing new paddock trees for future superb parrot habitat.
General considerations and eligibility:
- Priority will be given to projects that achieve the greatest cost/benefit for supporting superb parrot breeding and habitat connectivity;
- Any new corridor, riparian or block planting must be at least 20 m wide and be planted or direct seeded with a mix of native endemic trees and shrubs; and
- All project works will need to be completed within 18 months of signing the funding agreement or BCLG will invoice for the funds to be returned.
BCLG will subsidise a landholder’s project up to $7.50 per metre for fencing and $3.50 per tube stock trees and shrubs.
Paddock trees will be funded at $85 for stock-proof guards and tube stock. Landholders are required to contribute by undertaking site preparation, installing the fences, tree guards and planting tube stock.
