Young Hospital receives $250,000 funding boost for upgrades to its Emergency Department.

Young Hospital has received a $250,000 funding boost to upgrade its operating theatre equipment as part of the Regional Health Minor Works Program.

The work will include the purchase of an endoscopy reprocessing system to support improved clinical care for lower acuity surgeries.

Hilltops Mayor, and member of Young Local Health Advisory Committee, Brian Ingram said it was great news when the State Government provided funding for regional hospitals. “My understanding is the funding will be used to upgrade the equipment in the Emergency Department (ED), which will ease the pressure for both patients and doctors,” Mayor Ingram said.

“It’s a win-win for the whole community.

The Young Hospital is continuing to deal with a workload increase. The numbers who report to the ED are absolutely scary, and put a whole lot of pressure on the hospital staff. There’s a list of things that people present to the ED for that are not emergencies.”

While Mayor Ingram said he felt for everyone that presented to the ED, he urged people to consider whether their situation was really an emergency or whether they should pursue other available avenues for care.

Labor spokesperson for Cootamundra Stephen Lawrence MLC said this new equipment upgrade at Young Hospital would help to ensure clinic staff continued to offer the best high quality and timely care to patients.

“Improvements to these important regional facilities will also help to attract medical professionals to these communities,” Mr Lawrence said.
