Poole the Par King

Last Saturday saw some mixed turbulent storms smacking the area around, making life for our golfers somewhat fraught with danger and almost wintry weather.

Almost as dangerous was how good a form Tom Poole was in, seriously smashing the course in a seldom played Par Event sponsored by the Country Club. In a Par Event, one must actually play better than their handicap to record positive scores, or else if only on handicap the score stays at square to the card. As 75% of the field found out, playing worse than your handicap records red ink and negative scores will abound.

Tom has recorded a magnificent score of +5 to street the field and claim the day’s Club Voucher, limiting the damaging negative scores and holding on for grim life to each of the 5 or more times he beat his handicap on a hole. I am sure GolfLink will also smash Tom’s handicap before he next plays, such was the strength of this round.

Balls (or these days, refreshment vouchers) went back to a measly -3 and were awarded to; Brian Smith (visiting from Young Golf Club) on a very nice +3, Chris Whybrow on Square, Craig Henman on -1 and Craig Filmer on -3.

Monthly Medal this Week

This Saturday sees the start of the new year’s golf program. It is currently being entered into the Genius App for the full year as well as going in static form on the Club Web Page. We are also hoping to have hard copies for people’s fridges at home available at the Club soon. Except for strokeplay Club Championships, every event including Club Majors will be Medley or Unisex.

This week we embark on 2022 with the February Monthly Medal. This will be a stroke and stableford event and played in A & B divisions at half the field on handicap entered, for the division split. Up for grabs will be the Monthly Medals, a heathy Voucher for your Club Card and of course the Guzzlers Mug.

Dempster Cup Nominations

This year sees 2 main changes to the Dempster Cup. Firstly there will be nominations and not a qualifying round. No doubt members have seen their emails or texts already through the Club, and for a token fee and 2 minutes entry time, you nominate to join the Club Match Play Championship Event.

Secondly, it will be a mixed event where all Club Members are eligible to play. Pars will be squared away to equalize the track and the Men’s Match Index will be used. This year the Dempster Cup will decide the best Match Player in the whole Club.

Nominations are due by the March Medal and we will take up to 64 nominees.

See you all firing up for the Medal this Saturday and don’t forget the Pepe’s 9 hole Duck Run each and every weekend. Free drink with every entry in the Duck Run.
