Harden Hydrotherapy To Reopen In January 2025
The entire floor is a treadmill on hydraulic scissor lift, which means that people can walk directly onto the mat and then the whole floor is lowered into the water which runs at 32 degrees Celsius.
The Harden hydrotherapy pool and medical centre were built by the Kruger Trust, a bequest left to the town in the will of a deceased former resident.
The pool and medical centre were gifted to the Harden Council and the Council took on the running and repairs and had different physiotherapists over the years that ran the pool. Harden Physiotherapy is currently run by Alex and Liz Sherborne. Liz said that after the council amalgamation it became the property of Hilltops Council.
“Three years ago, the cost of repairs outstripped the returns so the Council closed the doors and walked away,” Liz said. “The quote to fix the pool was over $200,000 with the work being done by the American manufacturer.”
Harden Physiotherapy approached the Council to reopen the pool, and after two years of navigating obstacles, Liz and Alex submitted a proposal to lease the pool at a nominal fee and undertake to reline the pool and ensure all running costs were met by them.
“We have a three year lease with an option,” Liz said. “We have sourced the repairs through local companies for less than 20 percent of the American quote and many local professionals have worked on the upgrades for free because this is an amazing facility that has particular and specific effects on recovery from stroke and joint replacement surgery as well as many other uses.”
The pool has been repaired and filled with water, but on a run through they identified two slow leaks in the pipework underneath that need to be addressed before they can run the pool with confidence. Once those leaks have been dealt with, Harden Physiotherapy will reopen in January, 2025.
