The community of Harden-Murrumburrah may have seen members of the Harden-Murrumburrah Local Health Advisory Committee (HM LHAC) at the June Markets where they enjoyed a fantastic day introducing themselves.
The committee numbers 11 members, mostly volunteers, with a diverse range of backgrounds in health, education and other sectors, as well as the Manager of the Murrumburrah-Harden Health Service and representatives from the Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network (MPHN).
Chair of HM LHAC, Lauren Masson said the committee met once a month to discuss and implement projects.
“Our role as LHAC members is to advocate for our local community and help inform customers about health services available,” Ms Masson said.
“As such, an LHAC is a conduit between its local community and the Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) and the MPHN.”
**The group is excited to inform the community of the goals they have been working towards: **
The placement of defibs units where they are accessible 24/7;
Promotion of bowel cancer screening;
Identifying and prioritising the most relevant health issues;
The lobbying and organising of the re-opening of the Hydrotherapy Pool, driven by Alex Sherborne;
Hosting a series of All About Days which will focus on bringing together a number of specialists and presenters to speak on specific health topics such as mental health, My Aged Care, ACAT, ACAT financial assistance, diabetes, obesity and a raft of other issues.
Initially, these All About events will target the senior citizens demographic, but all age groups and health matters wiill be included in the projects.
The HM LHAC has a Facebook page, which advertises, promotes and informs the community about up-coming events, including health clinics like the Outreach Heart Failure Diagnostic Clinic who were at the Kruger Medical Centre on Thursday, August 15 as well as delving into specific health diseases.
Community members can voice their suggestions and concerns to the committee via their email address at hardenmurrumburrahlhac@gmail.com.
They are eager to hear thoughts about health services in Harden-Murrumburrah.
