Harden Show Hailed A Success

While the organising committee for the Murrumburrah-Harden Show are still finalising takings for the weekend, they are thrilled with how everything went, according to Secretary Sarah Jones.
“The show went off really well,” Ms Jones said.
“We had a few big hurdles in the week leading up, particularly in relation to securing rides, but overall everyone seemed to really enjoy the day and we know the ride passes helped make the day a lot more affordable for families.”
There is always plenty to do at the Show, with something to interest everyone, and everyone has their favourite attraction.
Ms Jones said she found it hard to pick a highlight. “I think everyone has their favourite event and for them that would be the highlight,” Ms Jones said.
“Our big events, the Quickshear and the Woodchop, pulled a big crowd and I know lots of the community are ready and waiting for these events to start. Our pavilion had a wonderful display this year and it was great to see some new faces. The horses also returned to show date this year and lots of people commented that they enjoyed seeing events back in our main arena.”
“For the kids, I know they enjoyed the freedom of the ride passes and the free attractions. Fairy La La is always a hit with the kids, as is the petting zoo.”
The fireworks display is always a crowd favourite, and this year was no different.
Ms Jones said that it was difficult for people to realise the hard work, time and effort that goes into an agricultural show until they’ve served on a committee.
“So much of what we will have on the day is unknown,” she said.
“Even our rides. I think for a long time everyone has presumed the show has had control over what attractions turn up on the day, but this is something we have no influence over. Like many small shows, we struggle securing sideshows and attractions and we are trying to move away from that being our focus. The best way to make our show better is to support it. Get a hold of a schedule, find an event you can partake in and get your entries in. There is much more to an agricultural show than the amusement rides.”
The community has been very vocal in their thanks and congratulations to the organising committee, and Ms Jones said it was great.
“We don’t just show up on the day, we are working hard all year,” Ms Jones said.
“To have families thank us for bringing together an event that is affordable and entertaining is just amazing. At the end of the day we aren’t doing this just for ourselves, we are doing it for the community. We are the only event that’s been around for 136 years. We have to keep it going, it’s part of who we are as a community.”
If you’d like to be part of making this annual event bigger and better next year, the committee meets the second Tuesday of the month at 7 pm.
