Harden’s Harry Potter Reading Group A Magical Success

There was hardly a muggle to be seen at the Harden Library the past few Wednesdays as young witches and wizards have joined together to enjoy reading Harry Potter (HP) and the Philosopher’s Stone.
Rita O’Connor from Harden Rotary said the first couple of weeks were great.
“We had 16 kids the first week, 12 the second,” Ms O’Connor said.
“Everyone came with a spell - accio firebolt was the best and lots of wingardium leviosa.”
“However, these are true HP aficionados - they can answer every question I ask, often anticipating what I’m going to ask and volunteering extra information.”
“It’s been really fun.”
“It’s going to take a long time to get through the book because we do so much talking about all things HP.”
“Last week we had a discussion about broomsticks and the kids left me for dead with their knowledge.”
Ms O’Connor said a few of the regulars were absent the second week due to having to attend birthday parties.
“The mums messaged me apologising for their children’s absence,” she said.
Krista Hooke read during yesterday’s session which was equally as successful as the earlier two.
The Harry Potter reading club is part of Rotary’s shared reading program at the Harden Library, an extension of their reading program.
Last year, Harden Rotary received a grant from the Rotary district and, because it was such a positive community venture, Bendigo Bank sponsored the group to run it again.
“We gifted every primary school child in Harden a couple of books,” Ms O’Connor said.
Last year’s shared reading program lasted six weeks, who knows how long it will take for these little witches and wizards to read their way through the first book of the HP series.
