The Cowra Hospital might be out of the Hilltops LGA, but its services are utilized by Hilltops residents, and now this access is set to grow.

The NSW Government announced an additional $40 million for the Cowra Hospital redevelopment in the 2022-23 budget, bringing the total investment to $110.2 million.

The new hospital will deliver:

  • An emergency department
  • A general medical and surgery inpatient ward
  • A peri-operative service (a range of surgical procedures)
  • A maternity unit with a dedicated nursery
  • Ambulatory care (services for outpatients)
  • Oral health (dental clinic)
  • Renal dialysis (dialysis treatment for outpatients)
  • Oncology (chemotherapy treatments)
  • Community Health and Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol services, and
  • For the first time, Cowra Hospital will have a CT Scanner and an Ultrasound.

Since the announcement, the team at Health Infrastructure has been working hard on the Concept Design, factoring in the additional project scope.

Over recent weeks, Concept Design consultation has taken place including extensive staff consultation, Cowra Shire Council and Cowra Youth Council, Local Health Advisory Council and local clinicians, neighbours, key community health groups and the Aboriginal Working Group.

In coming weeks, the broader community is invited to a series of drop-in sessions, and the Hon. Steph Cooke, Member for Cootamundra, is encouraging everyone to take the opportunity to get involved in this next phase of the project.

Drop-in sessions will be held at Cowra Civic Centre at the following times:

  • Wednesday 31st August 2022, 5pm to 6.30pm
  • Thursday 1st September 2022, 9am to 11am
  • Wednesday 7th September 2022, 12.30pm to 2.30pm

An online session will also be held on Thursday 8th  September 2022, from 5pm to 6pm.
