Round 8 of the Summer Twilight hockey competition delivered an action-packed evening on the field, with several teams posting impressive scores as the season edges closer to its thrilling conclusion.

Fans were treated to fast-paced gameplay and remarkable performances, setting the stage for an exciting finish to the competition.

The first game of the evening saw the Wallabies take on the Hilltops Hornets in a thrilling, high-scoring contest. From the outset, the Hilltops Hornets held the upper hand, showcasing a formidable performance that left the Wallabies struggling to break through.

Despite their best efforts, the Wallabies found it challenging to penetrate the Hornets’ solid defense, with Edwina Murray delivering an outstanding performance at the back. Teamed up with Sarah Wills, the defensive duo proved almost impossible to get past.

The Wallabies did manage to create some moments of brilliance, with both Jennifer McKay and Izack Meharg finding the back of the net to give their side a glimmer of hope. However, these moments were fleeting, as the relentless Hilltops Hornets continued their unyielding assault.

It was an impressive attacking display from the Hornets, who racked up an extraordinary tally of goals. Taylah Murray, Michael

Killick, Tom Wills, Sarah Wills, Alexander Strachan, Sarah Mullany, and Ned Mullany all found the back of the net, securing a resounding 7–2 victory.

The Hilltops Hornets demonstrated their dominance from start to finish, leaving the Wallabies with plenty to ponder as they regroup for their next challenge.

The second game of the evening was another thrilling high-scoring affair, with the Kookaburras facing off against the Wombats. Known for their fast-paced style, the Kookaburras delivered their trademark swift attacking play and tight defense, leaving the Wombats with limited options throughout the match.

Despite the pressure, the Wombats fought valiantly, with Chris Hosken, William Byrnes, and Greg Bannister playing key roles in thwarting many of the Kookaburras’ attempts on goal. Meanwhile, Cooper Saines and Jennifer McKay pushed forward, doing their best to create offensive opportunities.

However, despite their best efforts, the Wombats were unable to score on the day.

The Kookaburras’ defense proved impenetrable, denying every attempt and giving their team ample chances to attack. And attack they did—Joshua Sibanda, Jude Sibanda, Edwin Kwan, Janice Dunk, and Lucy Dunk all found the back of the board, securing a dominant 5–0 victory for the Kookaburras.

It was a strong team performance from

the Kookaburras, who once again showcased their skill and determination, while the Wombats can hold their heads high after putting up a spirited challenge.

After a tough loss earlier in the day, the Wallabies were determined to make a comeback in their second game against the Dingoes. With fresh legs and renewed energy, they hit the field running, keeping the Dingoes on the defensive for most of the first half.

The Wallabies soon found their way to the circle, with Adam Gunderson guiding his team toward the goal. Andrew Pratt picked up the ball and pushed it into the circle, where Izack Meharg was perfectly positioned to tap it into the net, securing an early lead.

However, the Dingoes were quick to respond. Kyle McGovern, who delivered a standout performance both in attack and defense, made a solo run down the field, skillfully bypassing the Wallabies defense to put the Dingoes on the board. Just moments later, Michael Adams followed up with another goal, giving the Dingoes a 2–1 advantage.

Gilroy Walsh played hard for the Dingoes, covering plenty of ground in both defense and attack, while Kiara Ryan made some crucial goal-saving moves to keep the Wallabies at bay.

The second half proved challenging for the Dingoes as they struggled to break through the Wallabies’ strong defense, led by Aiden Gunderson and Elijah Meharg. Taking advantage of the momentum, the Wallabies created several scoring opportunities. David Webster and Andrew Pratt both capitalized, each finding the back of the net to secure a 3–2 victory for the Wallabies.

It was a spirited comeback from the Wallabies, who refused to let their earlier loss dampen their drive.
