He has been giving free produce to those in need since he first moved to Young, living his faith.
Last Sunday, he left fresh produce from his farm at Anderson Park free for those in need to help themselves. It was cleared out in less than 40 minutes. Hus Okul said he had received more messages, but can only do so much.
“I just wish people could see the world with my eyes for just a few minutes,” Hus said. “I can guarantee everyone, humanity would be much different. I have no mortgage, no bills, my kids are grown and thank God doing very well. It’s just me and my wife. I can’t take it to the other side. The coffin has no pockets so why not share around.”
Hus said his religion paid two different kinds of tax - one to the government and another to people in need. “A certain percentage of what you make goes to families in need,” Hus said.
“The Good Book says if you go to bed with a full stomach knowing your neighbour or anyone is going hungry, you’re not one of us. I have been doing this since I moved to Young. At the beginning on a small scale and now, thank God, I reach out to as many people as I can. I used to hang bags of fresh fruits and vegetables seven days a week at my farm gate.
Unfortunately, us humans do get very greedy from time to time. I have stopped that, but I still help out over 20 families on a weekly basis and so many more on Saturdays.”
Hus said it doesn’t matter what colour you are, what religion you follow or where you come from, if you are in need he will happily help you where he can. Any money he makes from sales on a Saturday is donated back into the community.
“Not a cent goes in my pocket,” he said. “Times are hard for everyone, especially for country people.”
If you are in need, visit Hus at Anderson Park on Saturdays and receive some fresh, organic produce for your table. All he asks is that everyone takes what they need and thinks about others before taking more than they need.
