Members of the Lions Club of Young Inc recently enjoyed the fellowship and fun at the District Convention held at Forbes.

This annual event takes place at different towns within the local district.

A Black Friday trivia night was loads of spooky fun.

Young’s own Therese Waugh was one of the guest speakers at the convention, sharing the story of her family’s brush with medical cancer and how research and development have changed cancer treatment and the difference in the outcome for them.

Monica Wren also gave an informative look at the history of Forbes, hence the colonial theme of the gala evening.

Toby Crawford gave an overview of the benefits of supporting youth programs such as “Give young people a voice” Youth of the Year public speaking contest, peace poster and essay competition, Youth Exchange programs and others.

These projects offer opportunities in leadership and will enhance their future endeavours.

Geoff Kilmurray spoke about the service project “children’s vision screening” program and the 8,356 children (within other districts) who have taken part to date, and the success of the referrals to professional optometrists for children needing further assessment.
