It’s been neglected and ignored for many years, but Lions Lookout is still used by passing motorists as a rest area.

Located on the left side of the Olympic Highway heading to Cowra, just outside of Young, the area is being given a makeover by the Lions Club of Young.

The Young Lions began planning to refurbish the site last year and successfully applied for a grant from Hilltops Council for $1000, which they have used to purchase 250 native tube stock with guards, paint for the shelter and repairs and signage.

The first 50 trees and shrubs were planted on Monday, May 22, while the remaining 200 will be planted once the site has been further prepared.

Hilltops Council Youth Group has undertaken to paint the shelter once it has been repaired.

The Sectetary of the Young Lions Club, Stuart Freudenstein said Fin Martin from Young Landcare also provided advice on the best variety choice for the trees to plant.

“Our partnership with Hilltops Council, Hilltops Youth Group and Young Landcare is expecting the completed project to provide a regenerated site that our community can be proud and to have locals and visitors admiring the view from pleasant surrounding,” Mr Freudenstein said.

“Our Lions members are also looking to having our name attached to a site we can be proud of.”

Keep an eye on the site as it undergoes its transformation.
