Eager walkers, raffle draws, prize winners and family participation - it was all happening at the Lions’ Diabetes Awareness Lap the Map.

Lions Diabetes Awareness “Lap the Map” was held in the business district of Young, in the guise of a mystery detective observation walk on Saturday, March 19.

The distance calculated for the walk was 220 kilometres, which will be added to other Lions Clubs’ events to see how far Lap the Map can walk around the map of Australia.

Participants thanked the Lions for putting on such a great event.

The Girl Guides said it was a pleasure to have fun and it was especially good to see the guides in their uniforms on the street, which promoted what we do as a group.

“They had fun finding the items themselves and not telling others,” Girl Guides spokesperson said.

Another participant said it was a great way for her daughter to understand her friend’s challenges - a good way of getting Diabetes Awareness out there.

A prepared list of businesses took part in raising awareness of the growing incidents of diabetes.

Diabetes adds complications to everyday routines when people are affected. A diabetes-related item was placed in shop windows and people searched the windows for the item.

Entry forms were drawn and prizes were awarded as follows:

  • Winning prize sponsored by FTS Financial Planner;
  • Runner-up prize sponsored by M&M’s Music Store;
  • Third place sponsored by Amcal;
  • Fourth place sponsored by Bush Chemist;
  • Fifth place sponsored by Marie Tame Succulent.

Correct entries were placed in a draw for the prizes.
