The Lions Club of Young had an amazing day raising funds for the Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation recently.
Community members came out in droves to enjoy a classy high tea put on by the Lions Club of Young, complete with delicious morsels of food served on fine china.
During the event, Teresa Waugh shared her son Harry’s personal battle with childhood cancer along with the difference research could make to the dreaded disease today.
PDG Lion Ron Parry gave an overview of the Lions Foundation at work, whose vision it is to have a 100 per cent survival rate.
The Lions Club of Young expressed their thanks to:
- The Young Hospital Auxiliary for lending the beautiful tea sets and their hard work in the background of the event;
- St John’s Church for allowing the event to take place in their Church Hall;
- Rob and Dorothy Nash, fellow Lions from other clubs in the district for attending;
- Donges Super IGA for assisting with groceries; and
- M&Ms for the use of their sound equipment.
It was an amazing community effort for a very worthy cause.
Coupled with an unexpected donation from Young Eyes and a Gold Coin Day held and donated by The Young Preschool, the Lions Club of Young raised approximately $3,000 for the Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation.
