Scott Coupland and his wife Daisy have started selling some of their produce directly to consumers from their Olympic Highway property.
They have a self-service fruit box with an honesty box set aside for people to pay for what they take.
At the moment they have some beautiful blood plums and delicious fresh tomatoes for sale all for just $5 per pack.
Scott said that it was something they were starting to build and hoped to include other products in the future.
“We try to give the public a good deal when they come to purchase,” he said.
Scott said that while he could see that some of the prices the supermarkets charged consumers seemed reasonable, what they had paid the farmer wholesale for the produce was very poor.
“There are a lot of problems through the industry that need looking at and government is also part of the problem,” Scott said.
Scott and Daisy’s fruit box continues to be restocked with fresh blood plums (Frontier, Primetime, Donsworth and Mariposa).
The tomatoes they currently have available include truss, ox heart and grape tomatoes.
The couple rely on the honesty of those people enjoying their produce to pay for what they take, so if you drop by 524 Olympic Highway, North Young please remember to put your money in the honesty box if you take something with you.
NSW Farmers Association has pushed for an ACCC inquiry into supermarket pricing of fruits and vegetables, a push that is backed by Federal Member for Riverina Michael McCormack.
