Local Showgrounds Receive Stimulus Upgrades

Showgrounds across the Hilltops region will benefit from funding through the NSW Government’s COVID-19 stimulus package.

The showgrounds with successful applications are Young, Boorowa, Harden, Koorawatha, Bribbaree and Rye Park.

Young Showground will receive $27,500 for the purchase and installation of CCTV.

Boorowa Showground will receive $151,800 for upgrades to the change rooms and amenities, irrigation for the main arena and parade ring and for road sealing work.

Harden Showground will receive $21,247 for the replacement of the ceiling and painting of the interior of the Cowabbie building, as well as repairs to and painting of the entrance gates and the painting of the inside of the lunch pavilion.

Koorawatha Showground will receive $16,000 for the installation of evaporative cooling for the luncheon booth.

Bribbaree Showground will receive $132,461 for repairs to and the painting of the exterior of the pony club pavilion, the installation of the external fencing to the club’s arena and upgrading the canteen and kitchen facilities, as well as constructing return yards for the campdraft arena and the installation of a new water tank.

Rye Park Showground will receive $6,000 for the installation of reverse cycle air conditioning.

The six showgrounds in the Hilltops region are part of 20 showgrounds across the Cootamundra electorate including Grenfell, Cootamundra and Gundagai and seven across the Goulburn electorate including Crookwell and Yass to receive funding.

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said she was delighted with the number of successful applicants from across the electorate. “I pushed many of our local show societies to apply for this funding which will be a boost to local tradies and suppliers, and of course to our show societies who have already been doing it tough through drought and COVID-19,” Ms Cooke said.

“This is a fantastic result for many of our wonderful showgrounds who will now be able to undertake upgrades, build new infrastructure and improve these important community spaces.”
