Local Sisters Push For Parkrun In Young

Do you want to get up off the couch, but aren’t quite sure that you can do it alone?
Vicky Coddington and her sister Janice Ward may just have the solution - a Parkrun.
“We’re hoping to start a Parkrun in Young,” Ms Coddington said.
“Young is a good sized town, but it doesn’t have a Parkrun. The nearest one is in Cowra. My sister decided she needed to do ten before Christmas.”
If you are interested in learning more about a Parkrun held each Saturday morning in Young, pop in to Green Ivy Cafe on Saturday, November 9 at 9 am and have a chat with the ladies.
Parkrun is a free community event where people can walk, jog or run around a 5 km measured course on a Saturday morning. A junior Parkrun is 2 km for children between the ages of 4 and 14 and their families, held on a Sunday morning.
For those who want to be involved, but are unable to walk, jog or run, there is always volunteering or spectating.
Parkrun is not a race, though. It is all about coming together and having an opportunity to be active in a fun, inclusive atmosphere.
Ms Coddington said you sign up once in your life, for free.
“I am not tech au fait, but it is easy to sign up. You turn up to a specified place at about 8 o’clock and do 5 km,” she said.
“It is a measured course. You can run, walk, or jog at your own pace. You will get an individual number when you sign up, so you get to keep track of your progress.”
“It is about encouraging people to get off the couch.”
There are just over 500 Parkrun events across the country, and once you are signed up you can participate at any one any time.
Let’s see if we can add Young to the list of Parkrun events across Australia.
