Mercy Care Centre has been raising funds for the Breast Cancer Foundation, and held a Breast Cancer Breakfast last month.

The raffle fundraiser will continue to be run until mid November. MCC’s MaryLouise Cusack said that breast cancer research was such an important cause personally for many of the staff and clients.

“The community has been very generous; the prize pool for our raffle is worth $3,500,” Ms Cusack said.

“It will be drawn in November. Breakfast is just something we did for the day. We raised over $600 - it only went for an hour - an hour and a half.”

Prior to the Breast Cancer Breakfast, MCC held its annual Allied Health Week lunch.

“It is a day where the staff get together and celebrate their achievements and acknowledge and recognise the achievements of peers,” Ms Cusack said.

**This year’s winners were: **

  • Early Career Clinician - Maddy McGregor;
  • Emerging Clinical Leader- Deanne McEvoy; and
  • Award for Clinical Excellence - Josie Deng.

Ms Cusack said that with the approach of Christmas, carols will ring out at the front of the MCC. “We do carols at Mercy,” she said.

“The front of the facility is lovely, and we try to utilise it whenever we can. It’s not a big thing, but we’ve been doing it for years. We’re always doing something to reach out to our patients and their families.”
